AirPods Pro 2 vs AirPods Max — Which Is Right For You
The decision is simpler than the price gap suggests.

Apple now sells two flagship audio products with very different stories. The price gap is significant; the use case gap is bigger.
The AirPods Pro 2
AirPods Pro 2 USB-C is the everyday, anywhere, anytime answer. In-ear, transparency mode that's genuinely useful, active noise cancellation that's improved meaningfully with the H2 chip, and the form factor lets you wear them all day without the head-fatigue of over-ears. The USB-C version is the current gen and the right one to buy.
The AirPods Max
AirPods Max USB-C is the listening session — the album you're going to actually pay attention to. Over-ear, broader soundstage, more weight, and the noise cancellation is on a different level for stationary listening (flights, focus work).
The honest call
If you're choosing one, choose AirPods Pro 2. The everyday wearability wins. The Max is the second purchase, not the first — and it's the right second purchase if you do focused listening or work in quiet environments and want them to stay quiet.
The verdict
Daily driver: AirPods Pro 2. Sit-down session: AirPods Max. Both, if you can — they cover different use cases and don't overlap as much as the price tag suggests.
